Chainring Guards (also known as Bash Guards) can be a lifesaver at the right moment. If you like to play in the techy rough, this can be just the ticket to peace of mind. Designed specifically to match our 36/22 Tooth Mountain Bike Chainrings, this metal guard mounts on a mountain bike triple crankset in place of the big ring to protect your 2×9 or 2×10 (or even 2×11).
Our Mountain Bike 36/22 chainrings are sold separately as a set, intended to mount in the “middle” and “small” ring positions of a standard mountain bike 104/64 BCD ( Bolt Circle Diameter ) 4-bolt, triple crank from most manufacturers. This chainring guard mounts in place of the big ring to complete the package.

3X to 2X Conversion:
– To convert from a mountain triple (3X) to a double (2X), use this chainring guard in place of the original large ring.
For simple protection against the occasional misjudged obstacle, these chainring guards are designed to be sleek and relatively light, yet offer significant protection — protection against rocks or other potential damage, but also to offer protection against miss-shifts and derailleur misalignment. The addition of a chainring guard is the perfect topping for a triple to double conversion.
Triple to Double Conversion:
If you have a Mountain Bike Triple (3 chainrings), you can make the conversion to a 2X setup (like 2×10) with chainrings from WickWerks, and a chainring guard like this.
The standard mountain bike triple crank can feature 3 rings as with our Triple Set, but if you prefer a double, like many folks, WickWerks offers several chainring options to make the conversion without buying a new crank. These chain guards offer the finishing touch to the conversion as well as protection for your investment — making the conversion from triple to double simple, and does NOT require a new crank!
