The Quick Fix: Installing The Sentinel
Installing The Sentinel
What is it? “The Sentinel” is a double sided Chain Catcher made to attach with almost any braze-on front derailleur. This Quick-Fix video shows the basics of how to install it (with some explanation about why, and the advantages of using it). In addition, more information about the Sentinel is available on the Products Page.
About the Dual Chain Catcher:
The Sentinel is a pretty simple device designed to protect your front shifting on both sides of the chainrings. It was first publicly introduced at the 2016 Tour de France when these were run on the LOTTO NL – JUMBO (TLJ) team bikes.
The devise is mounted very simply with the front derailleur on the Braze-On tab (found on many road and CX bikes). The design allows from completely independent adjustments of the chain catcher without messing up front derailleur adjustment. With a few simple screws, the inside and outside chain catchers are easily set for optimal performance.
Though the concept of a chain catcher or chain watcher (whichever terminology you prefer) is not new, but the inventive aspect here is the shift protection on both the inside and outside. Patent Pending. This feature of using the chain watcher both inside and out, allows the cyclist to adjust the front derailleur for aggressive up-shifting without the worry of over-shift. When adjust correctly, you’ll never drop your chain again. Just another innovation from WickWerks!
For now, The Sentinel fits only on bicycles equipped with a Braze-On tab for mounting the front derailleur. Future products will include independent mounting.
For best results, mount The Sentinel with no contact to the chain, but also with very minimal clearance. The closer the better — as long as it does not touch when the crank and chain are turning. Check both Big and Small chainring positions for the chain.
