Bring on the Cow Bell
Autumn brings with it the shortening days, changing weather, and the clang of Cow Bell. Who started the tradition of clanging the Cow Bell? (Somebody write a comment and tell us the history.)
And, Why is the atmosphere at a Cyclocross race so different (fun) than at other discipline venues?
Well, whatever the reasons, the antics of Cyclocross racing, including the Cow Bell, have my vote. Costumes in the ride, cheering with bells, hanging with your competitors before and after the races, mud and grime just for the fun of it … Then there’s that crazy nonsense of putting barriers right in the middle of the race … Oh, and don’t forget the race courses that have hills you can’t actually ride (gotta run up). And they call this bike racing? Yea! I like it! It all adds to the atmosphere.
Bring Your Cow Bell
Will you be racing this year? How about putting on a Cyclocross Race?
We are. Actually, we’re assisting with many. Keep your eyes pealed and you’re likely to see the WickWerks banners — some quite prominently — at races near you. And, to make it more fun, we’re also adding prems (like the Wicked Fast Lap Awards at Cross Vegas), or drawing / raffle prizes (like at the Wydaho Rendezvous Mountain Bike Festival). If you attend these races you might also find some WickWerks fliers offering special discount pricing for race participants.
So come along, and bring your Cow Bell (or snag one when you’re there). It’s fun to be involved. And, it’s fun to see all the smiles. Keep up all the great racing — and don’t forget to give a healthy “Thank You” to the race promoters. They give a lot more effort to the scene than meets the eye.
