Riding History
With the exception of a few month period, my entire riding career has been spent on a Shimano Drive-train so any comparisons that I give you are based on the difference between your system and Shimano.
Chain rings
After an initial adjustment period (about 30 minutes of riding) I was sold on these chain rings [RR Mountain Rings]. I needed an adjustment period because your rings shift differently than Shimano’s. When I shift into a larger gear with Shimano I tend to “baby” it in. I shift lightly and keep pressure on the shifter until the chain is on the chain ring. I found that this kind of shifting doesn’t work so well with your system and often you end up with shifter that has reached the end of its throw and a chain that is bouncing between its original chain ring and the larger chain ring. I found it that if I shift hard and fast I get a guaranteed good shift with your system. After discovering this, I haven’t missed a shift since.
Shifting down to a smaller gear is also different for your system. I can drop to an easier gear almost no matter how much I’m mashing my gears.
